About
Saba Studio was born in Diani Beach, Kenya - a place alive with vibrant colour, intricate pattern, and organic form. These influences are carried through each piece, where sustainability, artistry, and community are quietly interwoven.
Rooted in textiles, the studio focuses on handcrafted bags from repurposed materials and reclaimed, specially sourced beads. At its core, Saba Studio is a collaborative space...
The Soul of Saba
Founded by Melia, who was born and raised on the Kenyan coast, the studio is shaped by both place and practice. Her early work spanned painting, drawing, and printmaking. A shift toward textiles began with a single upholstered piece created for her degree exhibition - an exploration that led her to teach herself crochet, forming the foundation of Saba Studio.
Artisan Collective
We are a close-knit team of three, working in collaboration to create one-of-a-kind pieces that blend a variety of textiles and techniques. This fusion of materials allows each creation to carry the imprint of the hands that made it—honouring individual craftsmanship while expressing a shared creative rhythm.
Saba Studio was founded by Melia, who remains the visionary behind all design work. What began as a solo journey has, over time, grown into something more expansive and meaningful through the inclusion of skilled local artisans.
Milicent joined Saba, bringing with her over 15 years of crocheting experience. Together, Melia and Milicent crochet, embellish, and finish each piece with intention and care. Maurice, a highly skilled leather artisan, works closely with Melia to source deadstock leather and craft silhouettes that form the foundation of each design. When combined with intricate crochet and beadwork, these elements come together as wearable works of art.
Each piece is an expression of earth, texture, and individuality—created in the hope that anyone who encounters Saba feels inspired to embrace their uniqueness and move through the world with authenticity.
At Saba, we create textile pieces that invite a full sensory experience—an evolving collective rooted in creativity, individuality, and self-expression.
